Tiivistelmä
This bachelor thesis aimed at creating a guidebook for new nurses about caring for patients living with Alzheimer in homecare in its early stages. The purpose of this thesis was to support and help new nurses get more information about how nurses can treat and care for a patient with Alzheimer in early stage and improving patient’s quality of life in homecare, by setting up a care plan and creating a safe environment for a patient.
The authors of this thesis used different evidence-based materials collected from different reliable sources. The work was done according to LAB thesis guidelines. The knowledge based of the study included information of improving homecare services especially for patients during the early stages of Alzheimer. This thesis indicated also that nurses could provide a safe environment for the patient and find ways to deal with anxiety, annoying behaviours of the patient, and stress caused by the exhausting role of caregiving.
Practice-based method was done through the cooperation with Ahtiala kotihoito. Feedback about the guidebook was given through dialogues and emails from nurses.
The guidebook relevant information is useful for the new nurses during their working life. The knowledge of this thesis will not be used only by nurses, but also to the patient’s relatives.
