Micro enterprises owing to their sizing faces unfair business competitiveness. This limits the operation and decision making process in such enterprise. The framework of management control system in micro enterprises proves to be effective and contributes to the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises. The topic for this research is developing a management control system for a small sized enterprise.
The objective is to describe the management in small enterprises and the different types of management control systems, to identify critical elements of the management control system for a successful business in small enterprise by ascertaining the status of management control system in small business enterprises and exploring a certain company, its challenges, and opportunities. Lastly, the objective is to develop a management control system for a certain company.
In this research, several articles, and relevant books on the management control system domain have been reviewed. In addition, interviews have been conducted and data obtained for a certain company which is a micro enterprise. The data collected was analysed through the content analysis method.
The combination of theoretical knowledge of management control system in this thesis and result obtained from interview is utilised in producing a guideline for management control system adoption for a certain company (confidential). Further research is also recommended to integrate different elements and framework of the management control system in a small enterprise.
