Tiivistelmä
Muotoilun menetelmätutkimuksen alaan lukeutuvan opinnäytetyön aiheena oli muotoiluajattelun kokeilulliset ja osallisuutta lisäävät mahdollisuudet ratkoa organisaatioiden komplekseja toimintamallihaasteita. Kehittämistyö toteutettiin toimeksiantona Wärtsilä Energyn tuotehallintaorganisaatiolle. Sen tavoitteena oli edistää tuotehallintaorganisaation tuotetiimien toimintamallien kehittämisen haastetta, muotoilun ja yhteissuunnittelun keinoin.
Kehittämistyön menetelmällinen viitekehys rakentui muotoiluprosessin ympärille, jossa yhdistyy työntekijälähtöisen muotoiluajattelun ja yhteissuunnittelun keinot.
Kehittämistyön lopputulos konkretisoitui yhteissuunnittelun työpajamalliin, jonka tuotoksena syntyi pilottitiimien tulevan toimintamallin prototyypit. Prototyypit toimivat hypoteesimalleina ja keskustelun avaajina tuotetiimien toimintamallien jatkokehitystyölle. Kehittämistyön myötä lisätään tietoisuutta työntekijälähtöisen muotoiluajattelun ja yhteissuunnittelun keinoista ratkoa komplekseja haasteita. The topic of the thesis, which falls under the field of methodological design research, was to solve the operational model challenges characterized as complex in organizations by means of experimental and participatory design. The development work was carried out as an assignment for Wärtsilä Energy's Product Management organization. The design thinking and co-creation methods were applied to help promote the challenge of developing the operating models of the Product Management organization's product teams.
The methodological framework for the development work was built around the design process, combining both the design thinking and co-creation principles applied in the participatory workshops. As a result, the co-design workshop model was created that can be applied to solve similar operational model challenges. As an outcome, the pilot teams’ future operating model prototypes were created. The prototypes will serve as hypotheses for the product teams’ further development needs. With the help of the development work the awareness of human-centered design and co-creation principles for solving complex challenges will increase.

The methodological framework for the development work was built around the design process, combining both the design thinking and co-creation principles applied in the participatory workshops. As a result, the co-design workshop model was created that can be applied to solve similar operational model challenges. As an outcome, the pilot teams’ future operating model prototypes were created. The prototypes will serve as hypotheses for the product teams’ further development needs. With the help of the development work the awareness of human-centered design and co-creation principles for solving complex challenges will increase.
