Talousraportoinnin kehittäminen: Business Intelligence käyttöön

Abstract

Opinnäytetyössä selvitettiin toimeksiantajan talousraportoinnin nykytila, puutteet ja kehityskohteet sekä luotiin täysin uusi raportoinnin kokonaisuus. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli luoda Microsoft Power BI -sovellus, joka vastaa kaikesta organisaation talousraportoinnista. Interaktiivinen raporttipohja tukee taloushallinnon työskentelyä sekä johdon päätöksentekoa.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin toimeksiantona organisaatiolle ja raportointijärjestelmän lisäksi luotiin aiheeseen kytkeytyvä tietoperusta. Tietoperusta käsittää aiheet taloushallinto, Business Intelligence, raportointi sekä tietojenkäsittely. Toteutusta varten aineistoa kerättiin avointen keskustelujen, haastattelujen, nykytilanteen havainnoinnin sekä prototyyppi- ja pilottikäytön avulla.

Opinnäytetyön tuloksena otettiin käyttöön toimivaksi havaittu automaattinen raportointijärjestelmä, joka käsittää talouden toteuman, budjetit sekä ennusteet ja mahdollistaa näiden tehokkaan hyödyntämisen. Uusi järjestelmä on parantanut organisaation talousraportoinnin vaivattomuutta, nopeutta ja tehokkuutta. Työn aikana kävi etenkin ilmi, että projekti oli laaja ja vaati paljon resursseja sekä aikaa. Toteutus on kuitenkin tuonut lisäarvoa organisaatiolle sekä lisännyt tietoa talousraportoinnista.

The thesis examined the current state of the client's financial reporting, identified it’s areas of improvement, and created an entirely new reporting application. The goal of the thesis was to create a Microsoft Power BI application that provided all the necessary financial information for the organization. The interactive reporting app supported financial management and facilitated management decision-making. The thesis was commissioned by an organization and, in addition to the reporting application, provided a theoretical framework related to the subject. The framework contained topics that supported the goal, such as financial management, Business Intelligence, reporting and data processing. The primary research methods used were open discussion, interviews, observation and the release of the prototype and pilot versions.

As a result of the thesis, an effective automatic reporting system was implemented inside the organization. The application included actuals, budgets and forecasts and gave the users an interactive way to investigate the financial data. The new approach improved the accessibility and the efficiency of the organization's financial reporting. The project was resource-consuming, especially in terms of time. However, the implementation offered value to the organization and provided expertise around Business Intelligence.
