The main objective of the research was to study Urban Sustainability Promotion through the European Green Capital Award and to also explore the role of various perspectives by reviewing and exploring the concept of Green Capital and the criteria established for the Award. Tallinn was chosen as the Case Study City having won the award in 2023. The study was conducted under an abductive approach, different methods were used to achieve the results. Those include a literature review, semi- structured interviews with respondents, and existing data analysis.
The study explored various perspectives by Cities that have won the European Green Capital Award and have outstanding environmental indices. In this study, the subject is examined using Tallinn, Estonia's capital. The goal was to examine the city's environmental activities and environmental organization in the perspective of increasing competition.
Tallinn City received the award in 2023 after its fifth consecutive year - the base of the comparison was Lahti City which won the award in 2021.
