Tiivistelmä
The objective of the research is to study the relationship between training and development and employee performance among the employees of the Catholic University Institute of Buea. More specifically, this research seeks to determine if there is an implementation of training or manpower development programs at the Catholic University Institute of Buea. also, to find out if the training and development has any impact on employee’s performance at the Catholic University Institute of Buea and finally to assess the constraints faced in the implementation of training and development of employees.

The study assessed the variables within the framework of some applicable theories, the first of which is the social learning theory. Social learning theory emphasizes the importance of observing and imitating others' behaviors. It suggests that individuals learn through modelling, where they acquire new skills and behaviors by observing others and the consequences of their actions. In training and development, social learning theory is often applied through methods like mentoring, coaching, and collaborative learning activities.

This study was conducted using a questionnaire survey. A sample survey was carried out among the employees and managers of the Catholic University Institute of Buea using self-administered questionnaires. The questionnaires were administered using ‘Webropol.’ Descriptive statistics were done, and results were presented in a table.

The results of the study showed that CUIB implemented training and development programs at varied periods of the year and these training and development opportunities have a beneficial effect on employee performance. The constraints found were the lack of resources, especially human resources, the lack of relevance of training program to employees and lastly, the lack of support from top management.
