Chronic wounds assessment involves developing appropriate care plans that will assist in the healing process. In assessing the wounds, nurses do not only have to deal with the health condition. They also provide that focus on how the wellbeing of the patient/client has been affected by the wound.
Nursing competencies are related to the nurse's ability to apply his or her knowledge and utilized skill through practice. The study investigated the ways in which nurses assessed the healing process of chronic wounds using the competence of clinical nursing and decision-making.
The aim was to provide information about the ways in which clinical nursing and decisionmaking are applied during wound assessment. Literature synthesis was applied as a study method, and synthesis matrix for data analysis. The research applied a literature synthesis with an inclusion and exclusion criteria for choosing the articles. Two research questions were formed and answered.
Nursing competencies in wound care are explained in nursing decision-making and clinical nursing, This thesis elaborates on the ways decision tools and clinical expertise is used in decision—making. Clinical assessment tools are available in evaluating the healing process of chronic wounds. Pain management and choice of wound products are crucial in wound assessment.
