Children and their families diagnosed with cancer face a challenging situation in their lives. This requires help from health care professionals to assist them cope with the situation.
Children's coping strategies were identified in two different aspects: dealing with the diagnoses and coping with the cancer treatment. Several coping techniques were discussed in both aspects.
This thesis was also investigating the benefits of art therapy on the paediatric oncology ward. The findings indicated that art therapy interventions during hospitalization and treatment are beneficial in a wide range such as pain assessment and management or communication.
The aim of this thesis was to provide information for health care professionals especially to paediatric oncology nurses. It additionally discussed possible nursing interventions of art therapy that can be applied in the ward. The purpose of the thesis was to summarize the different aspects of art therapy used in pediatric oncology. The thesis demonstrated the benefits of art therapy and provided nursing interventions to paediatric oncology nurses.
