Real-time business intelligence : data-driven decisions for sales stakeholders

Abstract

This study delves into the realm of real-time business intelligence, highlighting its pivotal role in driving data-informed decisions among sales stakeholders. Through a diary-based approach, the study focuses on the practical implementation of this concept, harnessing the cutting-edge capabilities of Microsoft Power BI. The research undertakes a comprehensive analysis of sales and inventory data for "Maven Toys," a fictional chain of toy stores located in Mexico. This investigation encompasses critical insights into product information, store dynamics, daily sales transactions, and up-to-the-minute inventory levels across various store branches. By capitalizing on the real-time automation prowess of Power BI, the study show-cases how instantaneous data insights can empower sales stakeholders to make well-informed decisions with swiftness and precision. By shedding light on the transformative impact of modern data analytics tools in the retail landscape, this paper offers a significant contribution to the optimization of sales strategies, inventory management, and overall business expansion.

The study consists of the theoretical background of real-time business intelligence focusing on Microsoft Power BI as a BI tool, and the development work that uses Microsoft Power BI as an implementation tool. There was no commissioner for the thesis with the area of topic in Business Intelligence and its capabilities arising from the author’s own interest.

The result of the thesis is an interactive and automated dashboard that illuminates the fusion of data visualization and real-time automation, empowering stakeholders to uncover insights swiftly and make informed decisions with confidence, thereby redefining the landscape of data-driven business strategies.
