The study done was a case study and the assignment was given by Priotec Oy, a plastic molding company located in Kokkola, Finland. The assignment required to find the most suitable carrier of goods or freight forwarder for shipments to London, Frankfurt and Tokyo. The goods to be shipped are kitchen utensils produced by Priotec Oy.
In order to provide a theoretical background for the empirical part, secondary data was collected and analyzed. A general overview of logistics services and outsourcing of logistics services was provided. Selection criteria of freight forwarders and carriers of goods were given; further a framework for comparison and selection of freight forwarders introduced and factors affecting transportations speed and costs discussed.
In the empirical part qualitative research methods were used to collect and analyze the data further Analytic Hierarchy Process was applied. In the last section of empirical part costs and Analytic Hierarchy Process results were compared to gain the final results and determine the most suitable freight forwarder for Priotec Oy shipments. Finally in a brief summary the main findings are presented and the final conclusions drawn.
