Tiivistelmä
The topic for this project was initiated by Oy Raisoft Ltd., a software company that have been producing native and web applications in areas of elderly health care based on the interRAI systems. There emerged a need to support Raisoft' s web applications with offline capability to enable their customers to use their products in the absence of internet connection.
HTML5, which will soon become standard for the web, provides new features that enable to build offline web applications that are fast loading, available any time and place and much more reliable.
This research work was aimed at deeply investigating the potential of particularly two of the features of HTMLS, that are, application cache and local storage APis, in building an interactive and responsive offline web application. A practical demo offline web application was built as part of the research which has also presented itself sufficiently as a proof of the concept.
