Tiivistelmä
This research is a case study for Scanfil EMS, located in the area of Sievi, Finland. Scanfil is an international contract manufacturing and systems supplier for the telecommunications and electronics industry.
The research subject is "improving sheet metal utilization". In my research, I provided some suggested solutions to improve sheet metal utilization, by introducing continuous improvement techniques like six sigma to the case. From SIX SIGMA I used the DMAIC principles to provide the solutions according to the FMEA-analysis that has been made. The primary objective of SIX SIGMA in this case is cost reduction through waste elimination/reduction.
As a result, the suggested solutions for improving sheet metal utilization can improve the utilization, but there are some challenges and obstacles, like the company culture, and financial issues to implement the suggested solutions.
