Tiivistelmä
This thesis is written as a guide for Eghecrown Integrated Property Service (ECIPS), a real estate startup company in Nigeria, and other real estate companies that want to go green in Nigeria. Since ECIPS intends to go green through an energy efficiency programme, ECIPS was used as a case study. ECIPS intends to start operations in January 2012 and wants to go green from the onset of the business through energy efficiency programme. The company wanted to know the possibilities of implementing energy efficiency programmes and the strategy for implementation, given the existing conditions in Nigeria.
In the thesis, the fundamentals of going green in business were treated, since it was important for any company that wants to go green to know this first. Nigeria's current energy situation and possible barriers to the implementation was also addressed. Although, there were some obstacles to energy efficiency implementation in Nigeria, a combination of different research methods used in the thesis revealed there were still possibilities for a real estate company like ECIPS to implement energy efficiency programmes.
A case study of a real estate company (Gerding/Edlen) that started green with the implementation of energy efficiency programme, a quantitative research of real estate stakeholders and the study of the popular sustainability strategy mainly used by organisations were the mix that finally determined the possibilities of the implementation.
