Literature review from the fields of health care show that the issue on male circumcision has been debated for decades from 1980s, to this present.
World Health Organization suggested that in 2006, 30% of males approximately 800 million men have been circumcised worldwide either for religious, cultural, medical or other reasons.
The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between male circumcision and its role in the prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and the appropriate age of performing male circumcision. The purpose was to gain more knowledge on male circumcision as to the reasons for performing the procedure. Data was collected in the form of literature searches and involved reviewing previous researches carried out on the topic and reviewing all available material.
The data collected showed that Human Immunodeficiency Virus rate is lowered in populations that practice male circumcision than in those parts where circumcision is not practiced and it is best performed at infancy. However, male circumcision should be promoted in combination with other preventive methods since male circumcision does not provide complete protection against Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
