This thesis introduces Simple, a minimalistic HyperText Preprocessor (PHP) framework developed for WRKSHP Viapori Oy, a Helsinki-based digital design company. The motivation behind Simple was to overcome the challenges posed by existing frameworks that are often overloaded with unnecessary features. Instead, Simple encourages building components and functionalities from scratch, offering a more intuitive “do it yourself” approach to web development, particularly for smaller-scale projects.
The theoretical part of the thesis highlights the role of JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) in effective data management and the importance of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and metadata automation for enhancing online presence. It also examines server technology and architectural design, focusing on the front-controller pattern and component-based design principles.
Simple leverages JSON for managing framework configurations using multiple JSON files, allowing for adaptable and user-centric customization. Implementing the front-controller design pattern centralizes request handling, ensuring a synchronized workflow. Additionally, the framework's approach to metadata automation and component-based architecture further demonstrate its practicality and efficiency.
In conclusion, Simple demonstrates the effectiveness of a minimalistic approach in PHP framework design.
