Tiivistelmä
This thesis aims to explore the concepts of sustainable sightseeing and its relevance within the tourism industry, focusing on Stromma Finland, a Helsinki-based sightseeing company that has commissioned this study.
The theoretical framework of the thesis delves into the broader tourism industry, shedding light on the adverse environmental impacts associated with mass tourism. It focuses on sustainable tourism, providing an in-depth analysis of its various aspects, including ecotourism and smart tourism.
The research methodology for this thesis consists of two key phases: survey distribution via email and face-to-face survey collection. During the face-to-face survey collection, on-site customer observation, and interviews were also excised. Subsequently, surveys were emailed to all customers who had booked Stromma Finland's Hop On - Hop Off tours online, with their responses forming a crucial part of the study. Additionally, customers were observed during their Hop On - Hop Off Helsinki sightseeing experiences and a few selected individuals were interviewed.
The primary outcome of this thesis's study is the survey results, which offer valuable insights and suggestions for improvement. The results are presented visually through a Miro board featuring Stromma Finland bus images captured by the company's marketing team, alongside a summarised compilation of development ideas derived from survey responses.
This research aims to provide practical guidance for Stromma Finland in reforming its sustainable communication efforts and fostering a more environmentally responsible approach within the tourism industry.
