Tiivistelmä
The thesis work studied the budgeting of a non-profit educational organisation with an example company. The main objective was to create a next year budget for the case company, while trying to improve the budgeting process and understand the current challenges.
The research was carried as a qualitative study with one case company. The theoretical framework was gathered from different sources related to budgeting and financial management for non-profits. The empirical part was carried out by interviewing and analysing of financial documents.
A new budgeting method of activity-based budgeting was used to provide another point of view on budget creation for the case organisation. The result of the work is a budget for the year 2024.
A different way of budget creation uncovered problems in budgeting process of the case company and the thesis provided suggestions on solving them, such as settling more defined goals and better record keeping.
