Tiivistelmä
The subject of this thesis was lettering-based illustrations. The illustrations were made to support the story of Stephen King’s novel The Waste Lands in an imaginary movie adaptation as graphic props. The work was centered around one key character and the goal is to be able to add to the description of their mental state in the story through two separate lettering illustration pieces.
Research for this thesis was done through benchmarking and on personal research trips to cater to specific parts of the process. In Rome, Italy to study epigraphy and mosaic and in Warner Bros studios in Watford, England to experience first-hand the graphic props of the film industry.
The final products were two lettering artworks, out of which one was digital with an added small-scale stop-motion animation and the other one was a manual illustration.
