An infant is defined as a child in the age range from birth to 12 months. Infants are particularly sensitive to changes, including those associated with illnesses. A nasogastric tube is a thin catheter that is inserted to an infant if the baby is unable to eat, for example due to dehydration, prematurity, or deviation in anatomy. Inserting a nasogastric tube requires professional skills so that life-threatening complications could be avoided.
The core objective of this thesis was to facilitate a comprehensive understanding among nursing students and professionals regarding the intricacies involved in the procedure of nasogastric tube insertion in infant patients. This objective was realized through the development of an educational video, meticulously designed to impart essential knowledge and practical skills requisite for proficiently executing the nasogastric tube insertion procedure safely to infants under 6 months old.
This functional thesis consists of a thesis report and an educational video. The topics discussed in the educational video were based on current and researched information collected in the thesis report.
Based on the findings gathered from the questionnaire, the educational video was deemed efficacious, informative, and technically accessible for viewing.
As a conclusion the video was considered efficient and useful for learning. The educational video is published on Laurea University of applied sciences YouTube channel.
