The four-day workweek (4DW) has garnered increased attention following the widespread integration of remote work practices within organizations. As challenges encountered by talent seekers are rising, this study analyzed the appeal of the 4DW schedule to future talents. The extensive desk research findings supported the qualitative approach in this study. The study also adopted qualitative and quantitative methods by collecting survey data from students at a university of applied sciences, representing the future workforce.
The findings reveal a clear preference among participants for a 4DW schedule, with many preferring no reduction in salary. The findings also emphasize the importance of adequate compensation alongside a shorter workweek for optimal satisfaction. Notably, respondents from the North Karelian region strongly preferred the 4DW model, while those from Uusimaa, typically seen as progressive, favored the traditional five-day workweek.
4DW has potential for talent seekers. It has positively impacted workers’ work-life balance and gained an emerging status as an attractive option for future talents. 4DW can provide value in contemporary talent management strategies.
