Tiivistelmä
The objective of this thesis is to enhance the orientation guide for new employees at Hilton Helsinki Strand, making it a user-friendly tool that facilitates independent orientation. The commissioning party in this thesis is Hilton Helsinki Strand, operating under Scandic Hotels Oy, which has been offering accommodation services in Hakaniemi, since 1998. In the thesis, the importance of orientation is emphasized as essential for ensuring that new employees are well-integrated and effective in their roles at the hotel.
Employees were asked about their experiences with orientation and what they see as needing improvement in orientation. The research for this thesis was based on surveys with seven of the least-experienced receptionist team members and interviews with three supervisors. Research was conducted from March 11th to March 24th of 2024. The insights gathered from both the surveys and the thematic interviews were analyzed and incorporated into this report, significantly shaping the development of the new orientation guide.
As a conclusion to the thesis, there was a need for an updated orientation guide for the Hilton reception, even though the orientation was reported to be good according to interviews and surveys, but there was still a clear need for a structured guide. The outcome of the thesis after the research is the creation of a clear, accessible, and easily updateable online orientation guidebook hosted on SharePoint for the Hilton Helsinki Strand. The guidebook is designed to effectively guide new employees through their initial integration into the hotel's operations.
