Tiivistelmä
The aim of this study was to improve the commissioning company’s product change process. The commissioning company is a Finnish company operating in the metal industry. The tool that the company was using to manage product changes has expired, and a new solution must be found. At the same time, the whole product change process and process chart needed to be updated.
The state of the previous process was solved by studying three different target groups: Research and Development (RnD) Engineers, other stakeholders in the process, and people working at the management level of RnD. The research was implemented by making observations, two surveys, and interviews. The goal of the research was to identify pain points and positive aspects in the previous process as well as any requirements the employees have for the upcoming process.
A proposal for the new process was gathered from the research results. The most important findings were related to the availability of information, monitoring the process, and ensuring that the product change process-form aligns with real-world practices. In the future, it could be investigated whether these proposed changes were successful in improving the process.
