The goal of this thesis was to examine how GetOnline LAN Party affects young individuals in Kajaani. The
thesis studied their experiences, social interactions, and personal development during and after the event.
The research thoroughly analyzed the LAN party’s impact by using mixed methods research, which included
qualitative and quantitative approaches.
The thesis demonstrated that the LAN party, in general, positively affects participants’ social lives, by
promoting social connections and community engagement. However, unfortunately, many connections
made during the event do not go beyond gaming, which is often the only interest they have in common. In
addition, the thesis offers recommendations for event organizers to improve experiences of the event.
