Tiivistelmä
This thesis delves into the role of employee engagement in the implementation and enhancement of sustainability practices within the hospitality industry, focusing on four hotels in Manali: Hotel Mukesh, Hotel Apple Flower, Naina Resort, and Hotel New Vista. It provides an in-depth understanding of the current state of employee engagement in these hotels, focusing on the nature and extent of their involvement in sustainability initiatives.
Through detailed interviews, the research uncovers a range of sustainable initiatives being implemented in these hotels, including composting, energy efficiency, local sourcing, water conservation, green certification, renewable energy use, waste management, and provision of eco-friendly amenities. The study provides a comprehensive overview of these initiatives, highlighting their contribution to environmental sustainability and the opportunities they offer for cost savings, enhanced reputation, and guest engagement.
However, the study underscores the importance of continuous improvement and guest education to further leverage these initiatives. It emphasizes that while these initiatives are a step in the right direction, their full potential can only be realized through ongoing improvement efforts and by educating guests about the importance of sustainability.
The findings of this study could serve as a valuable resource for other hotels looking to enhance their sustainability practices and for researchers interested in the intersection of sustainability and hospitality. It offers insights into the practical aspects of implementing sustainability practices in hotels and underscores the pivotal role of employee engagement in this process. The study concludes with recommendations for future research and practice in this area.
