Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a detailed research of the ways in which persons from different backgrounds interact within the setting of the local drinking culture. It does so by delving into the complex dynamics that surround cross-cultural interaction inside Finnish bars. In order to shed light on the complexities of alcohol consumption behaviours, social connections, and integration experiences among a diverse range of customers, the research endeavour makes use of a thorough mixed-methods approach. This technique incorporates both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews.
The findings of this thesis highlight the significant role that bars in Finland play as social arenas, functioning as centres where people from a variety of cultural backgrounds come together. In spite of this, the research shows the presence of daunting difficulties, the most prominent of which are language barriers and cultural differences, both of which have the potential to obstruct meaningful connections between people of different cultures.
The study examines the diverse experiences of International individuals in Finland's drinking culture, revealing the intricate integration processes and the factors that contribute to or hinder the sense of belonging among customers unfamiliar with the country, based on a comprehensive analysis of data.
The thesis proposes practical strategies to promote cultural awareness and welcoming environments in Finnish bars. These include cultural competence training for staff and language assistance programs. The aim is to create a more welcoming environment for the foreign population. The thesis contributes to the discourse on cross-cultural engagement and offers actionable strategies.
