The goal of this thesis was to create a deck cargo ship technical specification model for Meriaura, which could serve as the basis for a possible new building. All measurements, lengths, weights, and other key quantities have been intentionally left out of the work.
During the thesis work, I familiarized myself with existing deck cargo ships and their characteristics. In addition, another key approach was to understand the different perspectives of the technical specification and the general keyways of shipbuilding. During the final work, I also got to learn about new construction projects as a follower, and in addition I interviewed shipyards and equipment suppliers about how they see the new construction project and how it progresses.
The case study method was used in the thesis. The data collection was carried out by familiarizing myself with previous projects, observations and interviews. This thesis was made possible by Meriaura and especially by Jyrki Hentula, whom I would like to thank separately. In addition, I would like to thank all the parties who supported the progress of my thesis by participating in interviews and separately distributing material to support the thesis.
