Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to produce an educational leaflet on immediate postoperative nursing care for liver transplant patients for nursing degree students. The current nursing degree curriculum does not include transplantation, leaving students inadequately prepared for clinical placement in post-liver transplant units. Thus, this thesis aimed to increase the knowledge of nursing degree students by equipping them with evidence-based information, contributing to the overall quality of care and safety of liver transplant patients during clinical placement.
This thesis was implemented as a functional thesis using a co-creation method in collaboration with Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Using a Google form-designed online questionnaire, feedback was obtained anonymously from third-year nursing degree students (n=14) and analysed with descriptive statistics. The result revealed that the respondents recognized the relevance of the topic, with all the respondents acknowledging the usefulness of the content of the leaflet for nursing degree students and that the leaflet enhanced their knowledge about postoperative nursing care of liver transplant patients.
This leaflet can be used as independent study material during the perioperative nursing module. As a recommendation for future theses, a leaflet focusing on evidence-based pre-operative nursing care of liver transplant patients can be developed to complement this leaflet, creating a complete learning kit for nursing degree students.
