Tiivistelmä
This thesis deals with the second generation of the bioethanol process developed around the world, as well as its need and uses. Nowadays the world is trying to avoid reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and the use of bioethanol is one of the possibilities that can contribute on it. In the last ten years, bioethanol and others biofuels were the most attractive to reduce carbon dioxide instead of fossil oils. The second generation bioethanol processes are mainly developing the transformation of waste material to bioethanol to the units such as slurrification, fermentation, distillation, rectification, dehydration, COi-recovery and stillage treatment.
The aim of this study is to find out what are biofuels. Different types of biofuels such as bioethanol, biodiesel and biomass; biofuel processes, and environmental and economical impacts of biofuel production. It's also to describe how the refineries and companies have developed different technologies to convert the biomass to the bioethanol by using different processes. Also it is to analyze the use of biofuels, the production and the process.
The result for this work has been an improvement of the literature review of bioethanol and second generation bioethanol. As described in this thesis there have been different types of processes in the proceeding with bioethanol production such as dry mill, wet mill, Frischer-Tropsch. Bioethanol is being considered environmental friendly, thus it contributed in reducing greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide emissions.
