Esports has grown rapidly and has become a global industry that attracts millions of fans around the world. The level of competition at the top is fierce, and the demand for structured academy programs has increased. These programs aim to nurture young players, providing them with resources and guidance to reach the top level. However, many academy programs are lacking revenue sources and as a result, suffer from financial unsustainability.
This thesis was project-based, a suitable approach to the client’s, ENCE Esports Oy’s needs and interests. The aim of the thesis was to investigate the current financial sustainability challeng-es that esports academy programs face, focusing on ENCE Esports Oy, the leading esports or-ganization in Finland and their academy program, ENCE Academy.
The research identified the current revenue sources and addressed the issues before provid-ing ENCE with a comprehensive plan on how to overcome these challenges. ENCE Academy was provided with various new strategies on how to diversify its income streams and create new ones to ensure its position as a competitive and sustainable part of ENCE’s operations.
