This study was concerned about stress and coping among Nepalese male students in Kokkola, Finland. The main purpose of this study was to find out stressful situation and coping methods thereby evaluating students' well-being focusing on mental or psychological well-being. In addition, this study tried to find out measures to improve their well-being.
Structured and open-ended questionnaires were distributed among male students in Kokkola in October 2009. The targeted group was male students from Kokkola. Among 22 male students, 19 participated in research. The result was analyzed partly manually, partly by using Microsoft Excel and partly by SPSS program.
The most stressful situations among Nepalese male students in Kokkola were too cold winter, staying away from family, no availability of preferrable food in the canteen, lack of economical support and lack of good friends. Various coping methods were used to manage stress. The coping strategies mostly used were engaging in other activities, talking with people, wishing for favorable situation and not worrying about the problem.The majority of the students considered their psychological wellbeing in good condition. The major important factors for improving well-being were reported as socializing, optimism, effective coping mechanisms and hard working.
