Tiivistelmä
Abstract

This thesis had three main objectives; Firstly,to explore literature on current best practices of inclusive education; Secondly, to compile a set of guidelines that will assist teachers in practicing inclusive education; Thirdly, to ensure that these guidelines are grounded in the National Core Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Care, and also in current educational theories and practices. The main purpose of the thesis, was to come up with a booklet that will serve as a useful guide for teachers of early childhood education in designing inclusive classrooms, and enhance their ability to create learning environments that accommodate the diverse needs of all children. This thesis employed a qualitative research method to collect data by exploring background knowledge on inclusive education from research articles, studies, reviews, and also utilizing the recommendations highlighted in the National Core Curriculum. The results showed that many schools and educators face challenges in practicing inclusive education despite the high need of inclusive practices in the classroom. The results were analyzed using iterative design and the outcome produced a refined set of guidelines- a toolkit that will assist teachers to effectively practice inclusive education in their classrooms. The toolkit is very practical and user-friendly. However teachers need to be guided on how to apply it, and more research is needed in this field of inclusive education.
