Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the study is to measure the digital transformation of incumbent firms in the wholesale industry in Finland. The thesis does not have a commissioner, but it aims to understand the current state of digital maturity from the subjective viewpoint of those who work in the industry. Additionally, the goal is to identify the main enablers for and challenges in digital transformation.
The theoretical framework is based on digital maturity models. Digital maturity, a measure of the ability to create value through digital technologies, is the key indicator for success in digital transformation. This study is research-oriented case study utilizing qualitative research methods. Data collection was done in semi-structured interviews and categorized based on the selected themes of digital maturity.
The results indicate that incumbents of the wholesale industry have not reached digital maturity. There are efforts to drive organizational and cultural transformation and to leverage usage of technology and data but change resistance exists and technology and skills may not support data usage. The identified key enablers for digital transformation are Digital Technology, Management Commitment & Skills and Employee Skills & Willingness to Change but these were also seen as the biggest challenges in digital transformation.
