Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study was to combine four different theories about user profiles into a cohesive framework accessible through common integration points. The objective was to build a design brief for a piece of furniture specifically tailored to the user information at each interaction point.

The theoretical foundation was formed by four different theories: Carl Jung’s theories of the Collective Unconscious and Archetypes, Shalom Schwartz’s Model of Values, Motivation Profiles of a Sustainable Lifestyle by Sitra, and The Informed Consumer by Kuudes. Within these four theories, enough similarities were identified to integrate them in a way that allows them to function as a system, where different integration points collect and combine relevant information. This approach enables the creation of a comprehensive design brief of a furniture piece tailored to the user’s lifestyle, values, and archetype at a given integration point.

To test the usability of the four theories as a system, three different integration points were selected as study cases. At each point, matching information from all four theories was collected, analyzed, and synthesized into a design brief of a furniture piece. As a result, three different furniture pieces were conceptualized: Podi armchair, the UKKO dining chair, and the Dora stool, respectively each integration point. For this thesis project, only the Dora stool was developed to the prototyping stage, while Podi armchair and the UKKO dining chair remain in conceptual development, open for further exploration.

The result, demonstrated by the three different furniture pieces, confirms that the four theories can effectively work together as a system, integrating user information into tailored design briefs. This approach not only personalizes the design process but also aligns user profiles, values, and lifestyles with product development. By structuring design briefs around user insights, this system opens possibilities for user-centric design solutions that enhance both functionality and emotional connection with promising applications for furniture design.
