Tiivistelmä
The aim of the thesis was to create ideas for Kokkola Business Institute (KBI) for its activities in internationalisation at home (IaH). The theory part proves how internationalisation and globalisation are the key factors in today's world. The thesis' focus was on the business world, which has internationalised with high speed after the fast development of information technology, because the development ideas were prepared for KBI that is an education provider on the secondary level.

International changes have brought education providers in front of the challenge. They have to face the needs of the changing world and provide students with a multicultural education and skills. As described in the thesis, in the Finnish National Board of Education strategy these changes are noticed, and also in the strategy of the Federation of Education in Central Ostrobothnia which reached in all its units, of which one is KBI. The practises of international actions of the Federation in Central Ostrobothnia and KBI are presented. Internationalisation has already a strong position within the actions of KBI. But because the concentration of international actions is mainly on sending students abroad, this thesis concentrates on developing IaH activities.

Ideas of IaH base on Swedish vice-rector Bengt Nilsson's article of IaH, which have risen up a wide discussion around the question that how are education providers able to provide non-mobile students with a better understanding of people from different countries and cultures, increase their knowledge of and respect for other human beings and their way of living and create the global society in a multicultural context? Nilsson has brought up that internationalised curriculum should include both cognitive and attitude-related objectives.

The development part of the thesis provides a list of possible areas and ways that KBI can utilize to improve IaH actions so that even more students will have a possibility to IaH. Main thing is to utilize the already existing international resources like immigrants more effectively and to include IaH in the new curriculum and practise.
