The literature review is done to describe what are the nurses’ workload and what are its effects and consequences for the patient’s safety. The purpose of the thesis is to describe nurses’ workload and to view how the workload affects the patient’s safety. This thesis Aim is to provide knowledge to the Nurses or Nursing student about how workload effect patient safety.
A Descriptive Literature Review is applied in this thesis. Data were collected from reliable academic databases from Laurea Finna, PubMed, CINAHL for the study. Data were deliberately selected using special inclusion and exclusion criteria to identify the most of relevant article for the study. The method of data analysis is thematic data analysis.
Nurses' workload and patients' safety is highly dependent on organizational structure. This thesis concludes that when there are enough nursing staff, technology facilities and supportive working environment, then there will be positive difference on patient safety, quality care and work satisfaction by Nurses.
In conclusion, this study's findings strongly argue how managing nurse's workload can have positive impact on patient safety and care. To address this issue health care facilities should ensure that there are enough nursing staff, technology facilities to ease the burden of administrative task and also supporting working environment. With these facilities the patient could have high quality care, patient safety and the nurses will have proper satisfaction with their duties.
