Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis is to develop an educational leaflet in English for Laurea nursing students, that emphasizes on methods to diagnose childhood asthma, medication options, nursing interventions, implications of poor asthma management, inhalation techniques, and key aspects of patient education. Even though videos are available demonstrating asthma medication administration to specific age groups, a detailed leaflet addressing the broader aspects of pediatric asthma is not.
As this thesis is a functional thesis, collaboration with Laurea University of Applied Science and the assistance of the thesis supervisors were essential, particularly for distributing the survey questionnaires and the leaflet. The questionnaire was designed using Google Forms, allowing feedback to be collected anonymously from 3rd-year students (N= 31) who had completed the Pediatric course during the previous spring semester. After a week evaluation period from 30.11.2024 to 05.11.2024, a total of 6 responses were collected that reflected on the relevance of the subject matter, the visual presentation of the leaflet, and the introduction of new concepts and knowledge on pediatric asthma care and management.
The leaflet is created using evidence-based resources with the intention to serve as supplementary learning material for all nursing students in Finland enrolled in the Nursing Care for Children, Youth, and Families course.
