Tiivistelmä
This study explores the role of succession planning in ensuring leadership continuity and knowledge transfer within Hobark International Limited (HIL), a Nigerian-based oil servicing firm. Recognizing the vital need for smooth leadership transitions, this research investigates HIL’s current strategies for identifying and developing future leaders, transferring critical knowledge, and maintaining organizational stability during transitions. A qualitative method-ology was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with senior executives, HR managers, and department heads. Data were analyzed thematically to uncover recurring challenges and best practices in leadership continuity. Key findings revealed that HIL relies on a combination of mentorship, digital knowledge management systems, and cross-departmental training to foster leadership development and knowledge retention.

However, challenges persist, particularly in retaining high-potential employees and effectively transferring tacit knowledge. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating formalized mentorship programs and expanding digital tools to enhance knowledge sharing. Additionally, the study underscores the impact of organizational culture on succession planning effective-ness. In addressing these issues, the research provides actionable recommendations to strengthen HIL’s succession planning framework, contributing to a resilient and adaptive leadership pipeline. These insights offer broader implications for service-oriented firms in dynamic sectors, highlighting the value of proactive succession planning for sustained organizational success.
