Tiivistelmä
This practice-based thesis aims to produce a video demonstrating the proper use of spirometry, which is a device that monitors or tests pulmonary function. Spirometry is the most used lung function test. It can be conducted on a patient with a chronic respiratory illness, like asthma, COPD, or other breathing con-ditions, so the proper use of the device is crucial. The project targets mainly nursing students and health care workers especially nurses with proper guidance on using spirometry. Health care professionals can also use the educational video as a reference. Spirometry can be utilized for the patients who have the following symptoms cough, wheezing and shortness of breath. This thesis will be implemented as a video demonstrating the utilization of the spirometry to provide quality results for diagnosis.
The project was provided by the Centria Health Lab at Centria University of Applied Science. The video can benefit nursing students by teaching them how to properly use the device, educating nurses about the lung function, and preventing the progression of the disease. This project is practice-based, and the main concept of its development is for educational and learning purposes. The video was developed in a step-by-step process using the most up-to-date information. It will showcase the use of evidence-based information with the assistance of Centria Health Lab. The video will be delivered in the English lan-guage, but it might also serve as a useful resource for Finnish students. Also, the video has subtitles both in Finnish and English languages. This thesis also covers the theoretical background of the topic, and all the information used in the project is from evidence-based and relevant sources.
