This research focused on the Aurinkomatkat-Suntours tour guides’ well-being at work in their destinations abroad around the world. The aim of the research was to attain information about the considerations of the tour guides’ well-being at work and the factors that have effected on their health.
For data collection, Webropol internet service questionnaires with 22 fixed questions and six open questions were distributed to all the 159 tour guides twice by personal e-mail during the summer season 2008 in this research. A number of 71 tour guides participated in this research and the respondents were 44.7%. A qualitative approach was used in enlarging on the research part and a quantitative approach was utilized while analyzing the background information as well as the number of respondents.
The results indicated that the tour guides considered their physical and mental well-being were quite good. The important factors of the effects on their well-being were positive feedback and the performance reviews together with good work ambience, colleagues and leisure time. The results underscored the importance and need of network support especially the destination managers and tour guides who work alone in their destinations.
