Tiivistelmä
This thesis developed a small-sized taxi company’s risk management and business continuity management regarding risks that are expected to significantly affect small-sized taxi companies operating in Finland. The thesis’s knowledge base was grounded on risk management and business continuity planning and the study used qualitative and developmental methods, such as interviews, literature review, document analysis, and brainstorming.
A risk assessment was conducted first, where risks were identified and analyzed along with the case company’s existing risk treatment methods that relate to these risks. After analysis, the risks were evaluated in terms of their expected influence that is based on a risk’s expected likelihood to occur and impact it can have on small-sized taxi companies once it transpires. Following the assessment, risk treatment development proposals were made to improve the existing risk treatment and business continuity development proposals given to develop business continuity management methods for safeguarding the business’s future in the long run. Both proposals were made according to the executed risk assessment and source information used. The main difference of these two proposals is that the risk treatment development proposals are primarily meant for improving the case company’s immediate response to the assessed risks, whereas the business continuity development proposals focus more on ensuring the company’s business’s longevity regarding the presumed future state of Finland’s taxi field.
This thesis produced practical solutions for developing the case company’s risk treatment and developed feasible business continuity undertakings for improving the business’s longevity. All of the presented developments and undertakings can’t be implemented simultaneously, so the case company should carefully consider what steps to take when carrying them out. Strategic planning and flexibility in implementation should be the key for success since the future of Finland’s taxi field seems uncertain and its winners are likely to be the ones with excellent abilities in adapting to new circumstances.
