Causes of high unemployment rate in Radomsko district : views and opinions of local community

Unemployment is one of the biggest problems of present economies. In Poland it appeared at the beginning of the political system transformation process during 90's. Despite the decrease of the unemployment rate in the last few years, the problem still persists. It is necessary to mention that the number of unemployed varies significantly in various parts of the country. There are regions were only four percent of the population remains without any jobs and regions where this number rises even up to twenty five percent. Radomsko district is one of these places with very high number of unemployed people.
It is difficult to univocally state what the reasons of this unfavourable situation are. Knowing them would be much easier to eliminate or reduce unemployment. It is not easy to explore causes which are staying behind this problem. This is why unemployment is such a big problem. Change of the political system was surely one of the reasons. Introducing free market economy did not cause unemployment by itself it just disclose a problem that already persisted and was concealed by communist government. Rationalization of employment caused a wave of mass dismissals of ineffective workers that because of their attitude and behaviour have difficulties in finding new work placement. In addition many inefficient enterprises were closed and that released a large number of work force resources.
The purpose of this study is to explore people's views and opinions about very high unemployment level in Radomsko district. Secondary as well as primary data were used. The structure of registered in local Employment Bureau unemployed people was analyzed and a qualitative research was carried out.
