Tiivistelmä
This thesis is a study of ionic liquids in liquid-liquid separation of metals. The focus was on choline chloride C5H140NC1 and betaine (CH3)3NCH2COOH based eutectics. The main objectives were to prepare a series of various eutectics and to study their basic characteristics. A selection of ionic liquids were made from these for further study in metal extractions.
The study shows that ionic liquids can be used as extractants in liquid-liquid separetion when extracting palladium and rhodium from the raffinate. Furthermore the correlation of leaching results was established between palladium and rhodium.
Thesis also looked into the phase forming between ionic liquids and water, toluene, DMf, dichloromethane, methanol, EtOH, acetone nitrile, MEK, propanol, and butyl-aldrehyde.
