This thesis was done for the Technological Educational Institute of Crete.
The aim of this thesis was to study the management of recreational sandy beaches. Also, problems caused by environmental changes at recreational sandy beaches were dealt with.
A case study of Ammoudara Beach was designed and implemented on Crete, Greece. In this case study the cleaning and the management of the beach was studied and possible environmental threats of this recreational sandy beach were assessed. This qualitative case study was done in situ using the methods of participant observation, focused interviews and analysis of related literature.
Two coastal programmes, the international Blue Flag Programme and European QualityCoast Programme, were selected as recommendations in implementing sustainable management at recreational sandy beaches.
