A literature Review on Experiences of Nurses Caring for Clients with Memory Loss in Homecare

Abstract

In the healthcare industry, providing individuals with memory loss targeted and compassionate care particularly in homecare is becoming a more essential and challenging task. Memory loss is a complicated process that is always associated with a decline in functionality and the impairment of memory and cognitive abilities. Given the rising incidence of memory loss conditions, gaining the knowledge of how memory loss affects people's everyday activities and ability to function normally can greatly impact how to design and implement interventions for older adults in good health and those with memory loss issues. Healthcare professionals in homecare settings need better understanding of how their care differs when they serve clients with memory loss. The paper conducts a systematic review of peer-reviewed research which was published from 2014 through 2024. The research utilized PubMed and PMC and ClinicalTrials database platforms using keywords “Homecare”, “Nursing” care and “Memory Loss.” The analysis included ten articles as the final choice from the search. The finding of the study was categorized into three major themes, including challenges in channeling nursing care for clients with loss of memory in homecare, needs for specialized knowledge and expertise in memory loss care, and emotional and psychological aspects. Out of these major themes, the findings were further categorized into nine subthemes. The results of this research will provide insightful viewpoints on the particular difficulties and experiences that nurses face. Additionally, understanding these experiences can help researchers design more effective, compassionate, and focused care solutions for patients.
