Acute respiratory illness in children is a common problem in paediatric healthcare. Paediatric patients are a relatively rare group of patients in the emergency care. The most common causes of acute respiratory distress in children are infections including the laryngitis, which is the most common infection. These infections can deteriorate rapidly and may require immediate treatment.
In addition to infections, allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis are common in children and can cause acute respiratory problems. Exacerbations of asthma, another common cause, often lead to emergency visits due to the sudden and severe nature of the symptoms. In many cases, asthma exacerbations can lead to emergency visits, and foreign body, where objects are obstructing the airways, is a critical risk, particularly in younger children who tend to explore their environment orally.
Understanding the common causes of, and how to treat, these acute respiratory difficulties is crucial to developing effective management strategies and improving patient outcomes. The thesis work studied these causes and discussed the effective treatments for acute respiratory difficulties in children.
