Tiivistelmä
The fundamental purpose of the thesis was to examine employers' perceptions of the service industry in Finland regarding the hiring of student employees. The thesis examined an employer’s perspectives on motivation in hiring and recruiting students and the benefits and challenges of training them to obtain a productive outcome for the company. Research on student employability in Finland, focused on the cleaning and hospitality industry, is limited despite the large number of students engaged in the service sectors.
The objective of the thesis was to examine and assess the advantages and difficulties faced by company X when hiring and recruiting employees who are simultaneously part-time or full-time students. Also, the prevailing trend of students predominantly working in the cleaning and hospitality industry should be investigated regardless of their academic studies or degrees in other fields. Additionally, the feasibility of students in this industry was evaluated, along with an analysis of the financial challenges they face on an annual basis. Company X is a well-known service provider with a global reputation that specializes in cleaning, laundry, and property maintenance, all of which improve the ease and wellbeing of its clients.
The data was generated using primary data collected through semi-structured interviews with managers engaged in hiring and recruitment procedures, motivation, benefits, and challenges. The research inquiries focused on employers' motivations for hiring students as employees and the advantages and difficulties they encounter while employing students in their organizations.
The theoretical background of the study includes human capital theory, social capital theory, and role theory. The theories cover crucial areas of research for policy makers, employers, and student employees to align with the anticipated roles and responsibilities, including student-centered entrepreneurship programs and job prospects, to study employability opportunities in Finland.
