Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to highlight the impacts of cross-cultural transfer of design concepts and practices. The thesis is based on a case study done where design ideas and concepts were borrowed from Finland to Kenya. Cultural differences between the two countries contributed largely to the overall success of this research and the project. The thesis utilizes qualitative research method. Data collection method was done by interviewing the owner of the project, project manager and a worker. The interview was to gather information from participant that were actively involved in the project.
The case study findings were supported by cultural intelligent theory and a variety of concepts. The main findings of the study were that culture contributes largely on how design concepts are embraced when transferring design concepts across cultures that are different. If a design concept or idea is not popular it affects all involved variables from labor, material sourcing, idea and adaptability. This to due to cultural norms and cultural differences. Pertaining to the research, subsequent studies should be presented of similar projects done.
