Tiivistelmä
Diabetes is a common chronic disease that affects the body's metabolism and impacts one in ten persons in Finland. This type of prevalence highlights a dire need for nurses skilled in effective glucose monitoring and diabetes management. Unlike other methods, the capillary blood glucose method provides quick, relatively precise, and aseptic results, requiring a small amount of blood, and is the most used method in hospital settings.
Recently, videos have become essential in delivering educational content and have maximized student attentiveness, engagement, and learning. Conducting a video for nursing students on the correct use of the blood glucose capillary method provides an effective learning tool. The purpose of this functional thesis was to produce an educational video for nursing students on how to take blood glucose measurements via the capillary method.
The video targeted second-year nursing students at Laurea University of Applied Sciences, and feedback collected via a Microsoft form was largely positive, noting the video's visual quality, comprehensiveness, and accuracy. The authors concluded that the video would aid nursing students in diabetes management and recommend producing a similar version in Finnish for students.
