NORSOK compliance

Abstract

This thesis work begins by explaining the NORSOK E-001 standard and products ABB can apply the standard on. It explains the standard in more detail from applications to system design. The different Ex-standards and protection classes are explained. The different functions issues inside ABB related to NORSOK are explained and summarized. NORSOK projects in ABB and their issues are listed which gives an understanding on the different aspects which can delay these kinds of projects. With the help of many interviews from the factory’s different function’s the challenges from NORSOK are explained in detail relating to the function at hand. The next chapter after this starts to digress and explain different ways each function should handle NORSOK projects in the future. Just to give some extra contents a financial calculation on the past NORSOK projects is given. A checklist for all functions to use is the next chapter. It gives an insight to what components and hardware NORSOK E-001 motors require, how it should be protected, what the customer needs to know and some additional information. A manufacturing guideline is also added which can be printed for workers in manufacturing.
