The thesis explores the job satisfaction among immigrant workers in Finland by investigating the lived experience of the individuals employed in various sectors. The thesis followed a qualitative approach where data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews. It investigates the multiple aspect related to the job satisfaction of immigrant workers and highlights some key factors influencing their job experience. Thematic analysis was used to for data analysis and interpretation where five key themes were identified that emerged from the finding.
Findings reveal that job satisfaction varies from person to person and situation to situation. Participants who found job-qualification alignment, supportive working culture and employer, fair and equal opportunities, flexible working hours reported higher satisfaction while those facing problems such as language barrier, non-recognition of prior education and expertise, harsh weather condition, physically demanding works expressed low satisfaction. It was interesting to see that no participant experienced discrimination or racism.
The study concludes by offering practical recommendations for employers, policy makers and the government to improve employment experience and integration process for immigrant workers in Finland. The findings highlight the need for enhanced language training, equitable career development opportunities, better enforcement of labour laws, improved integration programs that aim to foster working life experience of immigrant workers in Finland.
